Recycling

Why?

As consumers, in the UK each year we dispose of some 1.2 million tonnes of electrical and electronic products for which we no longer have a use and the volume is growing rapidly every year. Much of this waste ends up buried in landfill sites from which toxins can have negative impact on soil, air and water quality leading to environmental damage and adverse effects for human and animal wellbeing.

Recycling facilities are now available for all customers at which you can deposit your disused electrical products and the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations (WEEE) are aimed at maximising recovery and recycling of old materials and preventing the negative aspects of landfill disposal.

How?

As a retailer, River Island fully supports this regulation and we have joined the Distributor Take Back Scheme though which we have contributed funding towards the provision of improved recycling facilities throughout the UK for all our customers.

To remind you of the importance of recycling and the importance of these recycling facilities, all electrical and electronic equipment, or its packaging, is marked with a crossed out wheelie bin symbol - see below.
