A day in the life of a Product Sales Manager
Hi! I'm Lauren Dillingham and I'm a River Island Womenswear Product Manager. Here's some info about me and my job...
I started working for River Island as a store Sales Advisor and then became a Senior Sales Advisor in a Centre of Excellence. I was promoted to Womenswear Product Manager, and I am now responsible for product layout and visual displays across the department in my local store.
I make sure River Island’s brand image is being accurately represented across the Womenswear floor. I do this by creating a balance between visually exciting displays and commercially viable product placement. I am constantly re-evaluating our displays and adjusting them to feature each of the new key products that arrive in-store.
Working with my in-store team is fantastic and they are a huge support. I’m also given direction and guidance from my Retail Controller and Area Manager. I work closely with the visual team to adapt each Womenswear display to feature new key pieces when they arrive. Buyers and Merchandisers visit me to receive regular feedback on how our customers feel about each season’s new ranges.
It’s great to work with such a wide variety of people and their support and dedication has helped me ensure my work reflects the high standards and expectations of such a well-established brand.
The low down:
I love fashion, I’m very passionate about the product I am promoting and I am gaining new skills every day. Sometimes pressure can be very high; however I am always keen to deliver the highest standards with the help of my team. The experience and exposure I have gained from the fantastic opportunities offered to me have seen me progress from a small store to a top company profile store!
Fashion is fast paced and to succeed you have to really want it! Be prepared to work hard, show your enthusiasm, work in a team, give and take direction. Product Managers need people management and time management skills. You also need a flare for fashion, together with a decisive and professional manner. If you’re committed to your role you will progress within the fashion industry!
