RI Awards: The Grammys 2019 round up

We do love award season and this year’s Grammys has been an amazing one for female stars, which makes it our fave awards ceremony so far, obvs. The girls stole the show and won big, Michelle Obama made a surprise appearance with our new number one girl group and Alicia Keys was the host of dreams. What more could we ask for?

Here’s our winning moments from the big night…

Best new girl band

Have you ever seen a more powerful girl group? Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith, Michelle Obama, and J.Lo joined Alicia Keys on the Grammys stage to open the show and to talk about how music has changed their lives and empowered them as women. That’s one WhatsApp group chat we wouldn’t mute!

The history maker

The girl power theme continued as Cardi B took the title as the first solo woman to win Best Rap Album for her debut record, Invasion of Privacy. She walked the red carpet proving that the world really is her Oyster in a show-stopping Mugler gown.

Best performance

Grammys host, Alicia Keys, performed a special medley of hits whilst playing two (yes, two!) pianos in a tribute to pianist Hazel Scott. Her ridiculous talent certainly justifies the fact that she has 15 Grammy awards at home! Keys by name, keys by nature.

Best dressed

Lady Gaga stole the crown for Best Dressed, shining in more than 100 carats of diamonds and a disco ball-esque Celine gown. She also walked away with two Grammys for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and gave us a Mother Monster version of Shallow.

Best speech

Drake accepted the Best Rap Song award for his hit, God’s Plan and gave an inspiring speech to aspiring musicians, telling them to keep going and to not base their worth or success on awards… which caused him to be cut-off by show producers mid-sentence. We heard your message Drake and we’re here for it!

Colour of the night

Collecting one of four awards, big winner Kacey Musgraves hit the stage looking fire in red. Proving that red was the winning colour of the night, Dolly Parton, Katy Perry, Diana Ross, Bebe Rehxa and host Alicia Keys also donned the hot hue. Are they all getting in the Valentine’s Day mood?
