Iconic Denim Moments Through The Decades

Denim aficionados you’re going to love us, we’re feeling nostalgic and have rounded up a few of the most iconic moments in history. Over the past few decades, we’ve seen more style moments than we can count (meaning it’s almost impossible to choose). Here are a few jean-ius favourites.

Marilyn Monroe might have been famous for her more high-octane outfits, but did you know she was a pioneer for the blue jeans, white shirt combo? The iconic actress's outfits in the film, The Misfits helped popularise jeans as a staple in every women’s wardrobe (thank you Marilyn).

If you’re wondering how to style your flares then bookmark this iconic image, stat. When Farrah Fawcett skateboarded after a suspect in Charlie's Angels, wearing a red knit, trainers and a pair of denim flares, she rolled her way into style history

Because we are living in a material world, and I am a denim-loving girl. Nobody wears double denim quite like Madonna in her '80s prime.

With leather studded cuffs, double denim, pearls and red lips this is the decade at its finest. In fact, even in this relaxed look, the Queen of Pop lives by the style rule, you can never over accessorise.

You can’t say the words '90s denim and not picture the cast of Friends, specifically Jennifer Aniston. The pioneer of the ‘Rachel’ haircut and  TikTok trending salad, no one does jeans and a tee quite like her.

A lover of the boyfriend fit jean to this day, who can believe that this sheer shirt and chunky sandals combo is from 1998 and not 2022?

Picture the scene. It’s the VMA’s in September 2001 and Britney and Justin step out in one of the more memorable denim looks of our time – the Canadian tuxedo. While the denim cowboy hat didn’t quite catch on (sorry JT) double denim reigned supreme throughout the '00s with the denim jacket a staple in every girl's wardrobe. Here RiRi gives off a nonchalant cool we still aspire to.

In 2021 TikTok declared "the skinny jean is dead"’. Despite the fact we love a slim fit,  there is no denying that the ‘20s have seen us experiment with new shapes.

Alongside the return of straight and flared denim, the low-rise baggy jean has become a style staple. Make like Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid and pair oversized jeans with a cropped top and white trainers for maximum cool.
