WE ARE AN (RI) FAMILY​

Community is at the heart of River Island. We are proud to be building a culture centred on protecting wellbeing for everyone. As part of our kindness revolution, our aim is to create a diverse and inclusive workplace, across all areas of our business – which is why we’re working hard to make RI an amazing place to work for everyone, through every stage of life.


We are proud that in 2019 over 200 people had worked at RI for over 25 years, and hope that as our RI family continues to grow this number will keep going up. To help support our ever-expanding team, we’ve updated a few things for our Islanders recently to make sure wellbeing is at the heart of the Island. Kindness is the new cool, don’t you know?

ENHANCED PARENTAL LEAVE


As well as launching our new guides, for the first time EVER, we’re offering enhanced maternity AND paternity pay for everyone that has been employed with us for a year. We’re definitely almost as excited as our Islanders when they’re adding to their families, whether it’s pregnancy, surrogacy or adoption, and we want to always do the very best we can to make sure they enjoy this special time (/adjust to life with minimal sleep). With this in mind we now offer fourteen weeks paid maternity leave and two weeks paid paternity leave. We don’t want to leave anyone out, so those currently on leave qualify too.

NEW INTERACTIVE GUIDES


Despite seeing ourselves as one big family at RI, we know everyone has a life outside of work and we want to help our Islanders live their best lives - on the Island and off. Our new interactive guides on topics including Fertility Treatment, Pregnancy Loss and Adoption, are designed to support those going through such a life-changing time. Even better, we’ve spoken to Islanders who have been through it themselves to increase awareness of such common events. No taboos allowed.

INCLUSIVITY IS KEY


Fashion is for everyone. So, we’re working to make sure that RI is a diverse and inclusive place to work, across all areas of our business. Our guides have all been designed to be inclusive and cater to members within the LGBTQIA+ community, meaning whatever your family looks like, we’re here to support our teams at every step.

HELPING MANAGERS TOO


As much as we love our team wearing RI 9-9, we are strong believers in work life balance. This includes getting the right support from managers, so we’ve created guides to help them too. If anyone in their team is struggling, these guides make sure managers can continue to support in the right way, throughout these life-changing times. No awkward moments in sight.
