Summer is here (sort of), and with it the perfect excuse to go out and play. From wedding to garden party, it’s time to rediscover (buy new) occasion wear and make a game plan for surviving your social calendar with some decorum (ahem).
It’s not always easy to swap your go-to jeans for fancy threads and come out feeling like you, so we invited some friends of RI to Liverpool’s Style Studio to talk dressing up without selling out. We also grilled them on their social diaries, in hope we might live vicariously through their fabulous lives.
First up its Hello magazine’s beauty insider, Alexandra Light of What Alex Wears, telling all about her Races style. We’ve got good odds on her sharing something a little more fascinating than fascinators…
What’s the occasion?
Aintree Races.
Is there a dress code?
Yes…GLAM!
Who are you going with?
My girls.
Are you going to place a bet?
Absolutely – that’s the whole point in going, right?
What’s your tactic?
Go for the horse with the prettiest name!
If you were a racehorse what would your name be?
Fashion Over Function – it’s my life motto.
What kind of attendee will you be?
Stylish with a hint of tipsy
What’s your major sartorial scare?
Ill-fitting dresses are a big no-no! The right size is key.
Where do you stand on hats/fascinators?
I’m not a huge fan, it’s all about the clothes!
Do you have a funny story to share?
I broke the heel of my shoe once at Ascot and they wouldn’t let me back inside! I ended up sat drinking Prosecco and eating chips for the rest of the day.
Tell us about your look…
Everyone expects you to wear a dress to the races so I love to buck the trend with a suit – it’s sleek, elegant and stylish. Stand out in the crowds with an all-white look, just be careful around food and drink! I added hoop earrings and a matching mint bag for extra style points.
