THE TWIXMAS STYLE GUIDE

What to wear when you don’t know what day it is.

Twixmas: the mysterious downtime between Christmas and New Year. The annual break in routine when plans can be hazy, the sofa becomes our new life partner and it’s acceptable to eat Quality Street from 10am. Here’s what we’ll be wearing for the festive week when time has lost all meaning.

THE BIG RELAX

There’s no medal for changing out of your pyjamas before midday, so why bother? This is prime loungewear time: joggers, soft, oversized knits and fluffy slippers at the ready. A matching knit set will make you feel put together enough to answer the door to delivery drivers (or in-laws), while still allowing for a full afternoon of series-bingeing and eating chocolate coins.

THE WFH LOOK

Pulled the short straw and have to actually do some work over the Christmas break? Look polished in an instant for those remote video calls with a few clever pieces. Classic, low-key gold-tone jewellery, a blazer, pussybow shirt or chic headband are your shortcuts to looking professional in an instant. Nobody will notice your wrapping paper-strewn room or that you had quite a lot of Baileys the night before.

THE FROSTY WALK

Let’s face it: at some point during Twixmas, someone’s going to make you go for a walk. Give it some glamour with our longline faux fur coats and shearling jackets, and keep the chill out with hat and scarf sets or fluffy earmuffs. This year’s most stylish strolls also require a pair of on-trend embellished gloves, complete with chains, charms or studs.

THE IMPROMPTU PARTY

A last-minute invite calls for haven’t-tried-too-hard glam – whether you end up back on the sofa or the prosecco keeps flowing ‘til the small hours. Think satin blouses with cargo trousers, slip skirts with chunky knits, or metallic touches that nod to the festive season. If in doubt, a touch of sparkle never hurts (especially when the decorations are still up, and you’ve run out of clean jeans).
