To celebrate the drop, we sat down with the team behind the collection to talk inspiration, nostalgia and why sport and fashion remain the ultimate power pairing.
How would you describe the vibe of this collection?
Effortless, sporty and elevated. There’s a strong New York athletic influence running through the collection, echoing PONY’s roots and heritage logos. Classic sport shapes and a timeless athletic colour palette are woven throughout, giving a nostalgic yet modern feel. The relaxed silhouettes reference PONY’s iconic archive, from tennis-inspired co-ords to clean graphics that celebrate the brand’s legacy. This blend of retro energy and contemporary styling perfectly complements both River Island and PONY, creating pieces that are wearable, comfortable and full of personality.
What made River Island the right partner for this collaboration?
You understand how to take heritage and make it feel fashion‑forward. The River Island customer loves pieces that are wearable but still have personality, and that aligns perfectly with PONY’s DNA.
How did you approach this collaboration creatively?
We started with PONY’s New York roots – the archive logos, sport heritage shapes, the classic athletic colour palette. Then we layered in River Island’s modern styling: crisp whites, tonal co‑ords, lightweight layers and that polished, minimal aesthetic. The creative approach was all about balance: heritage sports energy meets contemporary fashion relevance which would work for all the family.
How do you think this collection fits into everyday summer plans?
This collection is built for summer moments. The co‑ords, track jackets, tees, and lightweight layers work perfectly for pub gardens, match days, festivals, city weekends – all those relaxed plans where you want to feel comfortable but still look put‑together. The styling really captures that easy, on‑the‑go summer energy.
Which piece is your personal favourite from the collection?
The white and blue men’s co‑ord set is my favourite. It captures the whole story: clean, sporty, premium and incredibly easy to wear. It nods to the tennis‑inspired references from PONY’s history but still feels very River Island. It’s the kind of piece you can throw on and instantly feel confident.
Why does this collaboration work for everyone’s wardrobe?
Because the pieces are designed to mix seamlessly with what people already own. The neutral palette, clean graphics and relaxed silhouettes make everything easy to style – whether that’s with denim, tailoring, trainers or summer dresses.
