Met Gala trends to steal for occasion season

Oh, the Met Gala. The most-talked-about night in the fashion industry has come and gone for yet another year. It’s basically Christmas, but for fashion. This year’s theme, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, did not disappoint. Among the sightings of tweed, pearls, rhinestones and fingerless gloves, there were also a few surprises; Jared Leto, Doja Cat and Lil Nas X all dressed up as Karl’s very famous (and very rich) cat, Choupette, for example. Yes, it is as delightfully weird as it sounds. While everyone (or at least RI HQ) continues to dissect every detail, we’ve rounded up three trends from this year’s spectacle that you can actually wear for your next occasion look.

Shop Dresses

The Vintage Corsage

Arguably the look of the night, Rihanna (otherwise known as the Queen of the Met) showed up in a jaw-dropping gown adorned in corsages (camelia corsages, to be specific). It was a ground-breaking take on classic florals that even Miranda Priestly would approve of. But, Rihanna was not the only one making a (convincing) case for these 3D florals. Adorning a number of looks on the carpet, it’s no surprise that the corsage trend is going to continue to be everywhere this summer. From ruffled mini dresses to satin shirts, achieve the cool-girl factor in nearly every kind of corsage this summer.

Timeless Tweed

It’s no surprise that there was *a lot* of tweed. A signature French classic often seen in the form of coordinating blazers and skirts, Monday night’s looks were a far cry from this traditional set. Instead, we saw a range of floor-sweeping gowns featuring glittering embellishments and exaggerated silhouettes to create a statement look worthy of fashion’s biggest night. Need proof? Simply look to Anne Hathaway’s tweed-covered gown finished with pearls, camelia flowers, safety pins and striking cut-outs. Slip this maximalist energy into everyday wardrobes with everything from tweed blazers, waistcoats, trousers and miniskirts - take your pick.

The ‘90s-Inspired Slip

A ‘90s icon wearing a ‘90s icon? Iconic. To translate, *the* Kate Moss arrived on the Met’s carpet in a couture lingerie-like slip dress. Crafted in silk and finished with feminine lace detailing, this look was the epitome of minimalist yet feminine dressing. The best part? It’s surprisingly easy to recreate and wear everywhere this summer. Yes, you guessed it, the slip dress is back. Yours may not be couture, but we promise the effect is nearly identical.
