How to wear summer's trending skirts

We hereby crown summer ‘23 as the summer of the skirt. This year, we're waving goodbye to heightened hemlines in favour of something a little bit longer: aka, midi and maxi skirts. From slinky satin numbers to nostalgic denim, these are the skirts to know (and shop) this summer. They're on-trend, easy-to-wear and perfect for when you forgot to shave/tan/moisturise your legs. Here are our current favourites, as styled by Naomi Ross.

The Column Skirt

To simplify, we're talking about a skirt that's clean-cut, high-waisted, subtly A-lined and has an ankle-skimming length. The more minimalist in style, the better. It's an always-elegant option, even when styled with a basic T-shirt.

Naomi's golden rule for skirt styling: keep to simple shapes on top for a more modern approach. Extra points if you keep it monochrome.

The Denim Maxi

Looking for an alternative to your favourite jeans? Enter: the denim maxi skirt. It works just as well with your other wardrobe essentials (tailoring, t-shirts, button-ups), but with a 2023 twist. It's basically your go-to outfit, but cooler.

Wear with chunky sandals and an oversized waistcoat (copied straight from Naomi Ross' playbook). Dress it up for summer evenings with an oversized blazer, fitted top and strappy heels.

The Satin Slip

Meet your summer wardrobe's new power player: the satin slip skirt. Adding a dressed-up feel to your wardrobe classics, you're going to wear it *everywhere*. Pair it with an oversized shirt and sandals to go from desk-to-dinner in a flash. All that's missing is a cold G&T (and your work bag stuffed under the table).

Wear it casually with T-shirts and slip-on sandals or with oversized knits and sandals. Just try not to wear it seven days in a row. Or do, we wouldn't blame you.
