The Expert Edit: Rachael’s early summer capsule wardrobe
The capsule wardrobe. We’ve all heard of them, but have we ever seen one in practice? Probably not. That’s where our experts come in handy. We asked Rachael Ratcliffe, designer at River Island and member of our Style Collective, to create a capsule wardrobe from our new-in, and boy did she deliver. Read on to see how she created seven different looks with a baseline of key pieces to wear, restyle and wear again. Not sure where to start? Stick to a palette of tonal colours, vary your textures and add in a pop of print to keep things lively!

These are the perfect staple pair of blue denim – super versatile, excellent wash and flattering fit. I dressed them up with chocolate kitten heeled sandals, an asymmetic printed satin blouse and this gorgeous PU low waist funnel jacket for a great desk-to-dinner outfit.

I love how versatile these khaki barrel jeans are. Especially paired with the natural textures in the bomber and pretty details of the top. I tied a printed satin scarf around my waist to add a little colour and dimension to the outfit.

Butter yellow and chocolate brown are two of my big key colours for spring. I love the juxtaposition of the soft satin and lace against the sleek PU. I tied a printed satin scarf around my bag to break up the palette.

This suede chocolate brown studded handbag is perfect for adding a little bit of glamour to a more casual outfit. I had to jump on the drummer jacket trend! This one feels super wearable and easy; I love how the peplum keeps it feeling feminine and flattering.

This cutwork bag is a great little statement piece to add texture and interest to a look. I loved the colour of the beads and used it to link back to the print in the top.
