Mommy issues | Mom jeans

We never thought we’d be saying this, but there’s a new fit in town. It’s mom! Our skinny jeans are having (some temporary) time out because mom - or mum - jeans are having a much-needed moment in our wardrobes. High waisted and with a tapered leg, these jeans are super flattering and still come in your classic black, blue and ripped styles - don’t panic! And if you’re not sure whether you’re ready to fully commit to the fit, we turned to our Style Studio girls to answer some of our most common Mom (jeans) issues…

How would you wear mom jeans on a night out?

“Mom jeans tend to be seen as a more casual jean. To dress them up and make you feel more glam, it’s good to add texture, colour and prints, whether that’s with a sequin shirt, lace bodysuit or a bold printed top!”

Hannah's picks:

I have a bigger bottom half but smaller waist and only ever wear skinny jeans, is it better to size up or down?

“Mom jeans are high waisted, looser around the hips and have a tapered leg so it really depends on your figure, but personally I think size down! You want to be able to show off your shape so sizing down will skim your curves on your bottom half and cinch you in at the waist but the trick is to go and try on the jeans and see what works best for your body.Once you battle with that initial struggle of getting them over your hips (we feel you!) you’ll see how flattering they can be!”

Hannah's picks:

What tops can you wear with mom jeans?

“ANY! They look great worn casually with a t-shirt tucked in or layered up with a hoodie and blazer and look equally as good with a crop top to show off your waist. Or if you really want to make a statement, I’d wear them with a cami top and trophy jacket.”

Alex's picks:

What kind of shoe would you wear with mom jeans?

“A sandal or slider are the perfect summer shoe to wear with mom jeans or if  you want something comfier and a bit more transitional, a trainer or chunky boot is also a good go-to. If you’re going on a night out, go for a statement heel like a court shoe or barely-there sandal or if you can’t hack the high heels, a heeled boot is a good back-up!”
