BEHIND THE DESIGN: RIVER ISLAND x MORGAN JAMIESON

Enter: our new summer collaboration with artist Morgan Jamieson.

Known for her vibrant, nature-driven artwork, Morgan now brings her signature style to RI with a collection designed to stand out all summer long. Inspired by her expressive floral illustrations and featuring statement swimwear, floaty dresses and poolside pieces, this collab is your summer wardrobe's dopamine boost.

We sat down with Morgan to talk about her creative journey, the inspiration behind the collection and why colour will always be in style.

When did you first realise you wanted to become an artist?

I started painting large canvases in high school and by 16 I was selling them. Looking back, I have always had an entrepreneurial brain.

How would you describe your artistic style?

Bold, clashy and imperfect. I lean towards abstract and still-life work, but I don't think I have an exact style. I'm also a designer, so I think that part of my brain also transfers across to the canvas.

How would you describe the mood of the collection?

Uplifting! It’s giving summer. Bold placements, beautiful embellishments and really detailed prints.

Why do you think fashion and art work so well together?

I truly believe creativity permeates every aspect of our lives: what we choose to wear, the home we live in, the food we eat, even the people we hang out with. Being able to express myself creatively through fashion is so fulfilling, and I think that what we choose to wear daily is the biggest form of self-expression.

How would you style the collection this summer?

We are approaching winter here in Aus, so I'd choose a dress and throw it on with an oversized leather bomber jacket. I also love to pair a dress with trainers to dress it down and then add some statement jewellery to finish the look.

What’s your favourite piece from the collection?

The orange off-the-shoulder dress with the beautiful large floral placement. It’s my absolute fave!

Why is this the ultimate dopamine-dressing collection?

Colour = joy.

AND, because you don't need to work any harder to make it look good. Throw on some beautiful heels or some bold trainers and you're out the door! The range doesn't need anything else to capture attention.

What was it like working with the River Island team?

It was a true pinch-me moment. I've always aimed high with my work, but never did I think a UK company the size of River Island would like to work with me - an artist from the south coast of Australia! The whole team has been so kind and so positive, and it's honestly been my career highlight.

What are the inspirations behind the prints/designs?

I find inspiration everywhere, but mostly it's from my surroundings. I'm so lucky to have a studio by the ocean on the south coast of Victoria, Australia. We’re surrounded by beautiful coastal landscapes and native flora, which provides a constant source of inspiration for my work.
