The Kind Society: Planet

Kindness is about more than compliments and favours. To us, being kind is about protecting the planet and its people. Looking after the environment is vital for us all, so we’re doing something about it: making fashion that’s kinder to Mother Nature. After all, we think green looks good on you.

These pledges are a snapshot of what we’re working on, and there’s so much more going on behind the scenes. Want to get into the details? Download our reports for a deep dive into the Kind Society.

The future of fashion? Clothes that look good and do good. We’re pledging to design more sustainable products, support responsible production and improve all our products to help reduce waste.

Every thread counts. All the cotton in our jeans is responsibly sourced, and soon 100% of our cotton will be recycled, organic or Better Cotton. By 2023, we’re pledging that at least 50% of our clothing will be made using sustainable materials (we’re currently at 37%).

It’s time to start a chemical reaction.

We’re eliminating all hazardous chemicals from our production and making sure we always meet the highest industry standards.

We introduced lists of restricted substances in 2020, to help remove harmful chemicals, and we train all our suppliers to make sure they can match our standards.

In 2022, we began implementing manufacturers restricted substances lists with our top 50 suppliers, which covers around 80% of all our products.

You might not think it, but making clothes uses a whole lot of water. So it’s our responsibility to look after it better.

We are integrating sustainable water stewardship (aka the ways we use water) throughout our network.

We’re taking steps to reduce the water impact of our denim, developing guidelines for manufacturers to reduce the water used when they’re made. By 2030 we will reduce the water used in our manufacturing processes by 50%, and by the end of 2023, all denim will use 22 litres or less of water.

Don’t chuck it out. We’re committed to eliminating landfill waste from all of our operations, and to increase recycling.

We’ve removed single use plastic from our packaging, re-used or recycled 850,000 items of clothing through our partnership with NewLife, and at the end of 2022, we launched our takeback scheme, to help you find new homes for unwanted clothes.

By the end of 2023, our UK operations will have eliminated single use plastics and send zero waste to landfill.
