How to host: Eurovision party ideas

The Eurovision Song Contest isn’t any old competition – it’s an event of glam-ma (glamour + drama), ultimate cheese and OTT looks we cannot *wait* to celebrate. The unhinged excitement of travelling from Albania to Switzerland through outfits, songs and points on your television screen is unbeatable. From hosting your own ‘do to keeping the little ones happy, here’s how to make your Eurovision unforgettable – with the outfits to match, of course.

Hostess with the Mostess

So you’ve decided to host your own Eurovision party this year. To impress your guests, create a menu of international-inspired canapés and cocktails: you could even print them out, or email them round the chat to save the trees. Scorecards can be created with simple graphic websites for added *finesse*. Themed tipples are a must (Aperols and negronis for Italy, Ouzo for Greece). Don’t forget your Europop playlist.

Oh, and here’s a red, white and blue outfit that’ll hit all the high notes

A Family Affair

All the nieces and nephews are coming. Even Nan’s stopping by for the family fun (just keep the noise down!). Eurovision starts after their bedtime at 8pm, but why not watch it on catch-up the day after, with arts and crafts? Write down all the nations competing and draw names out of a hat. Divide everyone into teams with a country to represent. Set up a face painting station and get your brood decked out in their assigned nation’s colours – you could *even* award a prize to the best team at the end.

Make sure they’re dressed to impress the grown-ups in a casual shirt, but still comfy enough to chill out with the cousins: denim cargo shorts are a key item for summer, sneakers and lightweight summer dresses for maximum style points.

To The Pub!

If you’re not quite up to hosting (it’s a lot of pressure, we know), get your group together and head to your local. Create your own party within the pub with a Eurovision sweepstakes – pay as little as a pound, and the winner takes the prize. Craft homemade signs of support before you head out. You could even organize Eurovision bingo: include options like “sequins”, “fake rain”, and our favourite…”singing out of tune”. You’ll be talking about this night out for months to come, we promise.

Keep it casual and cool with the gang: this is the top you’ll be seeing everywhere this summer - the revere collar, or, Cuban collar, shirt. Just add straight leg jeans or lightweight chinos, and trainers. Just in case you decide to get up and dance on some tables to Finnish house music.
